# Create and Manage Projects in Mintlify

> Learn how to create documentation projects in Mintlify, configure visibility and custom domains, and manage settings for each project.

Projects in Mintlify are the containers for your documentation. Each project has its own content, settings, analytics, and publishing history. This guide shows you how to create a project and manage its settings so your docs are organized and accessible.

## Create a project

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open the project creation flow">
    From the Dashboard, click **New project** in the top-right corner. You can also use the `?` shortcut and select **Create project**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Choose a template">
    Select a starter template (API docs, product guide, or changelog) or start from scratch with a blank project. Templates include pre-configured navigation and sample pages.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Name your project">
    Enter a project name and an optional description. The name appears in the project list and in the default URL (`your-team.mintlify.app/your-project`).
  </Step>

  <Step title="Set initial visibility">
    Choose **Public** if you want the docs to be accessible to anyone, or **Private** to restrict access to invited workspace members. You can change this later in project settings.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Confirm and create">
    Click **Create project**. Mintlify initializes the repository and opens the editor so you can start writing immediately.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## Project settings

After creation, open a project and go to **Settings** to configure the following:

* **Visibility**: Switch between Public and Private. Public projects are indexed by search engines unless you disable indexing in workspace settings.
* **Custom domain**: Assign a domain like `docs.example.com` to this project. See [Setup](/getting-started/setup) for DNS instructions.
* **Analytics**: Enable or disable page-level analytics and set up conversion tracking for key calls to action.

<Warning>
  Deleting a project permanently removes all pages, analytics, and publishing history. This action cannot be undone. Consider exporting your content first if you may need it later.
</Warning>

Once your project is configured, invite teammates to collaborate and start publishing your documentation.
